Samsung is introducing a service for the galaxy gadget owners to find gear when it goes missing. ‘SmartThings Find’ is the feature that extends the capabilities of finding devices including Galaxy phones, tablets, smart watches, and earbuds too.
Samsung has already used this app as a trial in the US, UK, and South Korea last month. However, the company now launches it globally for helping its users to find devices when they are lost.
SmartThings Find works in a way with a combination of Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and ultra-wideband (UWB) services to locate devices. This will be available on hardware running Android 8 or later versions.
Registration of users for the service will allow SmartThings Find to track Galaxy gadgets although they’re not connected to any mobile network. The SmartThings Find app will show users the location of their devices on a map.
This feature from Samsung familiarizes the way Apple locates the devices using ‘Find My Device’ software. Samsung users can command their device to “ring” to help locate it, or use an augmented reality feature.
The AR feature displays color graphics that increase in intensity when you are getting closer to your device. The company said that the service is available worldwide from this week with the update being rolled across Galaxy smartphones and tablets that are running Android 8 or later.
