There have been corporate entities taking initiatives on advertising. Starbucks also joins hands in halting advertising on social media platforms. The company has stated the same in a blog post on 28 June (Sunday).
This reputed coffee company said it stands “against hate speech” and believes “both business leaders and policy makers need to come together to affect real change.” A spokesperson from the company said that the social media advertising does not include YouTube.
However the company strongly opposes advertising for paid promotions. The posts on social media would be intact and running as usual, the spokesperson stated. The company said that it is not officially joining the “Stop Hate For Profit” campaign organized by the NAACP, the Anti-Defamation League, and other social justice organizations.
The company stated that this campaign is aimed specifically at Facebook and its moderation policies. The policies include aspects of removing hate speech, misinformation, violent threats, and calls for a boycott of advertising on the platform through the ban of advertising.
