The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is investigating a powerful new type of AI tool: a model. It includes text and video creators like ChatGPT. The CMA found a “convergent platform” for AI collaborations involving the same companies: Google, Apple, Microsoft, Meta, Amazon and chipmaker Nvidia. Reports Technology News
CMA director Sarah Cardell said: “When we started this process we were curious. Now that we have a better understanding and look at what is happening, we have real concerns.”
“The urgent problem we face is how to use this exciting technology for the benefit of everyone, avoiding market forces and unintended consequences.”
Ms. Cardell warned in a speech in Washington on Thursday. A small number of existing technology companies that are already strong in the digital market are also pioneering the model, the CMA said. They are trained in the massive amounts of data and support tools that are transforming the workplace and other aspects of modern life.
CMA said large technology companies have strong positions in access to computing power and skilled workers and can transform the market through software.
