Meta is significantly expanding its subscription strategy with the global rollout of paid consumer plans across Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp, while also beginning tests of new subscription offerings for creators, businesses and AI users.
The new consumer plans include Instagram Plus and Facebook Plus at $3.99 per month, alongside WhatsApp Plus at $2.99 per month. Subscribers will gain access to additional features such as profile customisation tools, enhanced reactions, audience insights and other premium social features.
According to Naomi Gleit, Meta plans to introduce additional features over time as the subscription ecosystem expands.
At the same time, the company is testing a broader subscription framework called “Meta One,” which will become the umbrella brand for Meta’s paid offerings going forward. These tests include professional plans for creators and businesses as well as AI-focused subscriptions tied to Meta AI.
Meta said the strategy is designed to diversify revenue beyond advertising by monetising its enormous global user base through premium features aimed at power users and professionals.
The subscription plans differ depending on the platform. Instagram Plus and Facebook Plus focus heavily on social expression and audience engagement tools, while WhatsApp Plus centres more on messaging personalisation features.
Meta also clarified that the new plans will operate alongside its existing Meta Verified offering, which currently focuses on identity verification, impersonation protection and customer support.
Instagram Plus introduces a wide range of creator-focused tools, including:
- Story rewatch analytics
- Unlimited custom Story audience lists
- Weekly Story spotlighting for extra reach
- Extended Story visibility beyond 24 hours
- Invisible Story previews
- Searchable viewer lists
- Posting directly to profile highlights without appearing in followers’ feeds
- Animated “Super Heart” Story reactions
- Custom app icons and profile fonts
- Additional profile pins
The move reflects Meta’s broader push toward subscription-based monetisation as growth in traditional social media advertising matures and competition in AI-powered social platforms intensifies.
