A Mac operating system- macOS Big Sur is coming up, as the tech giant Apple is releasing. This new update allows Mac users to stream Netflix 4K videos. However, it is unfortunate that many older Macs don’t have an option to watch Netflix 4K content.
A support document from Netflix reveals that many older iMacs that are missing the T2 security chip will not be able to access the Netflix 4K videos. However, the reasons behind unavailability of playing 4K content from Netflix on the T2 missing iMacs are not known.
The users who purchased iMacs of 2018 and later models can stream through the 4K Netflix content as they comprise Apple’s T2 security chip. Apple’s official website also reveals the models that have a T2 chip on iMac models.
Here’s the list of iMac models that can watch 4K content on Netflix, for the time being:
- MacBook Pro (2018 or later)
- MacBook Air (2018 or later)
- Mac mini (2018)
- Mac Pro (2019)
- iMac Pro
- iMac (2020).
However, the reason behind the T2 chip that doesn’t work with 4K might be due to its access as a co-processor. The T2 chip has built-in video processing power including support for the popular HEVC codec, according to a marketing slide from Apple’s October 2018 event.
