Google, long known as the gateway to the internet thanks to its iconic search engine, is now reimagining the future of online search. For over 20 years, users became familiar with the company’s signature “10 blue links” that efficiently guided them to relevant information. Reports Technology News
But after 25 years at the top, Google is shifting gears, betting that the next evolution of search lies in artificial intelligence. On Tuesday, the company unveiled a major new feature called A.I. Mode — an interactive tool designed to function like a chatbot. Users will be able to initiate a query, ask follow-up questions, and receive in-depth, conversational responses powered by Google’s advanced A.I. systems.
“It’s a total reimagining of search,” said Sundar Pichai, the chief executive of Google, in a press briefing ahead of the company’s annual conference for software developers. In tests of the feature, he said, people dramatically “changed the nature of how they are interacting with search.”
A.I. Mode was the centerpiece of a broader rollout of new artificial intelligence features, which also include more tailored and automated email replies, as well as a shopping tool that can automatically purchase clothing when it goes on sale.
By launching A.I. Mode, Google is aiming to reinvent its core search business from within — a strategic move to stay ahead of fast-emerging A.I. rivals. The company has been on alert since issuing a “code red” in response to the release of OpenAI’s ChatGPT two years ago, a breakthrough that accelerated the push to integrate generative A.I. across the tech landscape.
