Alphabet, the parent company of Google, has announced a $32 billion (£24.7 billion) deal to acquire cybersecurity firm Wiz, marking the most expensive acquisition in Google’s 25-year history. Reports Technology News

The move is set to strengthen Alphabet’s cloud-computing business by enhancing security across its services. As part of the deal, Wiz will be integrated into Google Cloud.

Founded in 2020 and headquartered in New York, Wiz develops security tools that protect data stored in remote data centres from cyber threats.

The acquisition follows a previous takeover attempt by Google in July 2023, which was valued at around $23 billion (£17.7 billion). That deal fell through after Wiz’s directors raised concerns about potential regulatory hurdles.

The latest transaction is expected to face scrutiny from the US Federal Trade Commission as competition regulators assess the implications of the deal.

Sundar Pichai, chief executive of Google, said: “From its earliest days, Google’s strong security focus has made us a leader in keeping people safe online.

“Today, businesses and governments that run in the cloud are looking for even stronger security
