After piloting its AI-driven “Prompted Playlists” feature in New Zealand and expanding it to the U.S. and Canada, Spotify has confirmed the tool is now rolling out to Premium subscribers in the UK, Ireland, Australia and Sweden.

Prompted Playlists enables users to generate personalised playlists simply by describing what they want to hear in their own words. Rather than searching for individual tracks or artists, listeners can outline a mood, setting or inspiration, and the platform curates the selection automatically.

To use the feature, subscribers tap “Create” and choose “Prompted Playlist,” then enter a request in English. The tool is designed to interpret a wide range of themes — from moods and aesthetics to memories and specific eras or genres. Prompts can reference activities, lyrics, instruments, TV shows, films or personal milestones. Users can also indicate whether they prefer mostly new discoveries or tracks already saved in their library.

Once submitted, Spotify’s AI generates a tailored playlist based on the request, drawing on the user’s listening history alongside broader music and cultural trends. Each recommended track includes a short explanation detailing why it was selected.

Playlists can be refined by adjusting the original prompt or starting from scratch. For users with evolving tastes, the platform also offers the option to schedule automatic daily or weekly refreshes.

As the feature remains in beta, Spotify said further changes may follow based on user feedback. Usage limits are currently in place, with some users reporting they reached a cap after roughly 20 to 30 prompts.

The rollout forms part of Spotify’s wider push to integrate AI across its platform. Recent additions include Page Match, which allows listeners to scan a physical book page and jump to the corresponding section in an audiobook, and About This Song, offering deeper track insights. The company has also upgraded its lyrics feature to support global translations and offline access.

Separately, ticketing platform SeatGeek recently partnered with Spotify to integrate concert ticket links directly into artists’ pages and tour listings within the app.
