OpenClaw, the free and open-source AI agent platform that gained widespread attention earlier this year, has officially launched mobile apps for both iOS and Android, bringing its autonomous AI capabilities to smartphones.

The announcement was made by OpenClaw on X, marking a significant step in expanding access to its AI agent ecosystem beyond desktop devices.

On both mobile platforms, users can connect their devices to the OpenClaw Gateway, a routing layer that links user requests with AI agents and the tools, skills and services they require to complete tasks.

The mobile launch enables users to run OpenClaw agents directly from their smartphones, allowing AI assistants to perform a wide range of activities including coding, productivity tasks, research and meal planning. While many users have reported positive experiences, others have highlighted occasional limitations in agent performance.

OpenClaw attracted global attention earlier this year following the launch of MoltBook, a social media platform presented as being populated entirely by autonomous AI agents.

In February, OpenClaw creator Peter Steinberger also announced that he had joined OpenAI, further increasing interest in the rapidly growing AI agent platform.

Researchers later revealed that parts of the MoltBook demonstration involved humans impersonating AI agents, suggesting the project combined marketing with experimentation, although it also highlighted the growing potential of autonomous AI systems.

Despite the controversy, the project demonstrated the rapid evolution of AI agents, which are now becoming increasingly integrated across software platforms, productivity tools and mobile devices as the agentic AI ecosystem continues to expand.
