Mobile network operator Three has confirmed that some users are currently unable to make phone calls due to a fault affecting voice services. Reports Technology News

In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), the company acknowledged the issue but did not disclose how many of its 11 million customers are impacted.

The outage was first flagged by website DownDetector, which reported a surge in complaints at around 09:30 BST on Wednesday, with more than 9,000 reports logged.

Despite the disruption to voice calls, Three says its 4G and 5G data services are operating normally.

The incident comes shortly after Three completed a merger with Vodafone, forming the UK’s largest mobile network, serving around 27 million users. Vodafone’s network is not affected, and its services remain fully operational.

However, several mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs) that use Three’s infrastructure have also been affected.

iD Mobile, which relies on Three’s network, stated on its service status page:

“Please bear with us, our technical teams are working hard with our network partner Three UK to fix this issue and full service will be restored as soon as possible.”

Smarty, another MVNO, also confirmed it was aware of the issue and is actively working to resolve it.

On social media, customers have expressed frustration, with some saying they were unable to return important calls, including from hospitals and emergency breakdown services.

A few users also reported data issues on Wednesday morning, though Three maintains that data services are “working normally.”

This isn’t the first disruption this year. Back in January, Three launched an investigation after a small number of users were unable to contact emergency services (999) during a previous outage.

The company has not yet provided an estimated time for full resolution.
