Every platform scrambled to create a clone of Clubhouse after its ascent to success. But, the format’s popularity has declined over the past year or so, and businesses are reevaluating their objectives. Reddit said on Wednesday that Reddit Talk, a live audio product, will be discontinued on March 21 – two years after it was first introduced.
The business claimed that it must make significant progress before integrating audio into its platform. This effectively means that Reddit is refocusing its efforts on creating a stronger search engine and a feed for discovering videos similar to TikTok. Reddit receives more than 500 million monthly visits, according to Pali Bhat, chief product officer of the social network, who was recently interviewed on the Decoder podcast. Yet with these additional capabilities, the business hopes to expand the platform’s user base.
“The original plan was to continue using Talk while we worked on this. Regrettably, the 3rd party audio vendor we employ for Talk is shutting down its service. In other words, a significant boost in resources was needed to maintain Talk during this changeover, according to Technology News UK.
If a talk was hosted after September 22nd, anyone might download it until June 1st. Reddit Talk will be accessible until March 21. This should help reduce expensive storage costs. Reddit is one of many websites that have reconsidered its approach to live audio. Last year, Spotify closed down a creative fund for in-the-moment conversations, and many shows were cancelled. In October, Amazon fired employees from Amp, an app it had created to promote live radio.
