Meta has launched a new app called Seller, introducing a dedicated platform that provides advanced selling tools for merchants using Facebook Marketplace to buy and sell products.
The launch comes as Meta looks to expand its e-commerce presence, building on the success of Facebook Marketplace, which was introduced a decade ago in response to growing buying and selling activity within Facebook Groups. The platform also generates revenue through promoted listings.
With around 430 million items listed on Marketplace every month worldwide, Meta aims to strengthen its position against online marketplaces such as eBay while delivering a more streamlined shopping and selling experience for users.
The Seller app seamlessly connects with existing Facebook Marketplace accounts, allowing merchants to retain their active listings, buyer conversations and complete sales history without needing to start from scratch.
The new application includes a range of AI-powered features, including automated listing creation, a unified inbox for managing customer messages, inventory management tools and performance analytics designed to help sellers improve their sales strategies.
Meta said the Seller app is currently available through the Apple App Store for users in the United States aged 18 and above, while a web-based version is being tested for customers who install the app.
Alongside the new app, Meta is also introducing Facebook Verified, a free verification badge that confirms a genuine individual is behind a Facebook profile.
The verification process uses selfie-based identity checks as part of Meta’s broader efforts to improve authenticity, build user trust and enhance safety across its platforms.
The latest launch follows the release of Forum in May, another Meta application developed specifically for users who actively participate in Facebook Groups, reflecting the company’s continued investment in community-driven social commerce.
