Meta has previewed a series of new features for its Edits video-editing app, including an AI-powered creator assistant and a desktop version of the platform. The announcements were made during an invite-only creator event in Los Angeles as Meta continues to expand the capabilities of its CapCut rival.
The company also confirmed that several new tools are launching immediately, including a dedicated “Beta” tab for testing experimental features and enhanced audience insights designed to help creators better understand content performance.
Edits was launched last year as a direct competitor to ByteDance-owned CapCut, and Meta is now adding new functionality to strengthen creator engagement and attract additional users to the platform.
A key upcoming feature is an AI assistant that will help creators analyse performance metrics and generate content ideas. Using Instagram data such as views, engagement and audience retention, the assistant will provide insights into what content is performing well and explain the factors behind that success.
The AI tool will also recommend new content ideas based on account performance and identify opportunities to use trending audio and popular formats to increase reach and engagement.
By integrating AI directly into Edits, Meta aims to keep creators within its ecosystem as competition intensifies with TikTok and YouTube. The company believes easier access to content recommendations and performance analysis will encourage more frequent posting and boost overall user engagement.
The built-in assistant also reduces the need for creators to rely on third-party AI tools when brainstorming content ideas or reviewing analytics, streamlining the content creation process within a single platform.
Meta recently launched a similar AI assistant for Facebook creators, while rival platforms have also invested heavily in creator tools. YouTube offers AI-powered idea generation through its Inspiration tab, while TikTok provides an AI assistant that helps creators discover trends and develop new content concepts.
The upcoming desktop version of Edits will provide creators with greater precision and control during the editing process, particularly for more advanced video production workflows that benefit from a larger screen.
Meta said creators will be able to seamlessly sync projects between mobile and desktop devices, allowing them to move between platforms without disrupting their editing workflow.
