Adidas has confirmed it has fallen victim to a cyber attack, with criminals gaining access to personal data belonging to some of its customers.

The sportswear brand revealed that the breach involved “certain consumer data,” primarily the contact details of individuals who had previously interacted with its customer support team.

Crucially, the company stated that no passwords, credit card numbers, or other payment-related information had been compromised in the incident.

“We remain fully committed to protecting the privacy and security of our consumers, and sincerely regret any inconvenience or concern caused by this incident,” Adidas said in a statement posted on its website.

Lisa Barber from consumer group Which? said the breach will understandably cause concern among Adidas customers. “Adidas customers will understandably be worried that their personal data has fallen into the hands of hackers who might try to exploit it, so it is vital that Adidas provides clear and timely updates to affected shoppers and supports them in taking steps to protect themselves,” she said.

Barber also urged those potentially affected to monitor their bank accounts and credit reports closely for any unusual activity. Additionally, she warned people to be on high alert for suspicious phone calls, emails, or social media messages claiming to be linked to the breach, as these could be attempts by scammers to exploit the situation further.

The Adidas incident follows a wave of cyber attacks on major UK retailers, including Marks & Spencer and Co-op, where breaches caused significant disruption to business operations. However, Adidas has stated there is no evidence that its core business functions have been impacted.
