Shares in Reddit have surged more than 10% following the announcement of a partnership with artificial intelligence (AI) start-up OpenAI. Reports Technology News
According to the agreement, OpenAI, the creator of the ChatGPT chatbot, will gain access to Reddit’s content, and in return, it will introduce AI-powered features to the social media platform. This move underscores Reddit’s strategy to diversify its revenue streams beyond advertising.
This partnership comes amidst a wave of legal challenges from copyright holders regarding the use of their material by AI companies. On Thursday, Sony, the world’s largest music publisher, sent letters to Google, Microsoft, and OpenAI, seeking clarity on whether its songs had been utilized in the development of their AI systems.
Recently, OpenAI has also entered into agreements with several publishers, including the Associated Press and the Financial Times.
Additionally, in February, Google announced a partnership that grants it access to Reddit data for training its AI models.
