The famous entertainment application TikTok cannot be used in Hong Kong, said the company. The services of this social video app in Hong Kong are held off after the region granted expanded powers to the mainland Chinese government. The new national security law being imposed on Hong Kong pushes the company to stop operations.
Many global tech companies are now in a view that the new law might force them to comply with China’s draconian censorship standards. The user data might also be asked to send to the mainland. Major giants such as Facebook, Google, and Twitter have already stopped processing requests for user data from the Hong Kong government.
ByteDance is the owner of TikTok. This is known to be a major Chinese internet company. TikTok has been arguing that it never shares data with the Chinese government. And now the new Hong Kong security law is likely to have undermined the company’s case if it continues to operate in the region. The app was recently banned in India along with few other apps.
