Google has introduced a new AI-powered “Video Remix” feature for Google Photos, enabling users to edit and transform videos in seconds using its recently launched Gemini Omni model.

The new tool is part of Google’s broader strategy to expand generative AI capabilities across its consumer products as it competes with Apple, OpenAI and Adobe in the fast-growing AI-powered creative software market.

Available through the Create tab in Google Photos, Video Remix allows users to apply advanced AI effects with just a few taps, including cinematic relighting, background replacement and artistic video styles such as watercolor, oil painting and sketchbook effects.

Users can transform ordinary videos by changing lighting conditions, replacing backgrounds or applying creative visual effects, making it possible to produce professional-looking clips without using dedicated video editing software.

Google said the feature is designed to simplify video editing, allowing users to create high-quality, shareable content quickly without requiring advanced editing skills or lengthy post-production work.

Video Remix is rolling out to eligible Google AI Plus, Pro and Ultra subscribers across several countries, including the United States, India, Japan, Brazil, South Korea, Mexico, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, the Philippines, Argentina, Colombia, Egypt and Turkey.

The launch follows a series of recent AI enhancements for Google Photos, including intelligent photo retouching tools that can remove blemishes, improve skin texture, brighten eyes and whiten teeth using artificial intelligence.

Google has also introduced an AI-powered digital wardrobe feature that organises photos of clothing into a virtual closet, allowing users to generate outfit ideas and virtually try on different fashion combinations.
