Luffu, a new startup founded by Fitbit co-founders James Park and Eric Friedman, has launched Luffu Link, an LTE-enabled health and safety band designed to monitor the wearer’s physical and mental wellbeing.
The wearable combines all-day health monitoring, voice logging, location awareness and access to trusted contacts in one device. It can also provide help even when the wearer does not have a phone nearby.
The $250 device is currently available for pre-order and is expected to ship in early 2027. It will be available in three colours: halo gold, onyx black and sterling blue.
Luffu Link is the latest part of the startup’s plan to build an intelligent family care system. It complements the Luffu health-monitoring app, which launched earlier this year.
The app uses AI to gather and organise family health information, learn day-to-day patterns and identify notable changes. This is designed to help families stay informed and respond to potential wellbeing concerns.
Luffu was created from Park and Friedman’s experiences caring for their families and ageing parents. The founders said they wanted to give families a clearer view of a loved one’s health without requiring constant check-ins or making people feel monitored.
“When you become a family caregiver, or the CEO of the family, these people are spending an enormous amount of time doing it,” Park said in an interview with TechCrunch. “Research shows over 27 hours a week on average, which is a crazy amount of time…I think technology can play a big role in helping reduce this load, but as we found out, the tools to help them are pretty fragmented,” he said.
Luffu Link users can press a button to record information by voice, including updates about medication, symptoms, meals, mood and reminders. The Luffu app then organises the information and adds it to the family’s wider health context.
The company is targeting family caregivers, independent older adults and health- and safety-conscious consumers who want to keep track of their wellbeing.
The wearable also continuously collects health and wellness data such as activity, sleep, resting heart rate, calories burned, heart-rate variability and breathing rate.
Luffu uses this information to identify daily patterns, track changes over time and provide personalised insights or alerts.
