The tech giant Apple has acquired Mobeewave. This startup payments platform allows Apple to set up ways to pay users using a credit card or smartphone. This acquisition in turn allows the iPhones into mobile payment terminals. Mobeewave is a Montreal-based tech company that requires only an NFC chip to work, that allows users to tap either their smartphone or a credit card to another phone for payment processing.

Apple now takes advantage of NFC chips as they have been included in iPhones starting from iPhone 6 series. Mobeewave has received approximately $100 million from Apple along with its team of employees being retained by the tech giant. However there were no comments from any of the companies regarding the transaction. Samsung has previously partnered with Mobeewave on a pilot point-of-sale program in Canada last year.

Apple was successful in acquiring other startups this year, including Dark Sky in March. The acquisition of Dark Sky is expected in allowing Apple to integrate the weather features for the upcoming iOS 14 update. Dark Sky has stopped providing services for the Android version from 1st August.
