The latest wave of aviation technology projects to secure support from the state-backed Future Flight Programme has been announced.

Innovate UK is set to invest £4.4m across 14 pioneering projects, each focused on creating scalable, commercially viable applications for drone and aviation innovation.

Among the initiatives receiving funding are the ‘Dragon’s Heart’ medical drone delivery network, a next-generation traffic management system for air taxis, and a drone fleet designed to spread lime, native seed mixes, fertiliser and tree seeds across ecologically sensitive landscapes.

“Innovate UK is proud to continue backing the UK’s future flight ecosystem, accelerating progress towards commercial operations and delivering tangible benefits,” said Future Flight deputy director Simon Masters.

“These bold new projects reflect the sector’s strength and diversity of applications — from cutting emissions and advancing healthcare to protecting the natural environment.”

The Future Flight Programme, supported by the UK government and industry partners, is dedicated to building the technology, infrastructure and regulatory framework needed to unlock the future of aviation.

“We’re investing in the next generation of British aviation businesses, whose transformative technologies will redefine how we live and work in the years ahead,” added Aviation Minister Keir Mather.

“Investing in emerging technologies like drones and unmanned aircraft is key to build a greener and more efficient transport system.

“But this isn’t just good news for the environment, this tech will also save our public sector and businesses valuable time and cash whilst helping boost skills and support high quality jobs across the country.”
