TikTok has taken legal action to prevent Montana, the first state in the United States, from imposing a ban on its social media platform. The Chinese-owned video-sharing app claims that the ban violates free speech rights in the United States. TikTok has come under increased scrutiny from governments around the world due to concerns about data privacy and the possible sharing of user information with the Chinese government.

According to Technology News UK, the lawsuit was filed on Monday in the US District Court for the District of Montana, challenging the legality of the ban. TikTok intends to protect its business and the hundreds of thousands of users in Montana, according to an official statement from a spokesperson. The company believes it has solid legal grounds for success, which it bases on prior legal precedents and factual evidence.

According to TikTok’s lawsuit, the ban violates the First Amendment to the United States Constitution, which guarantees free speech. The company claims that the ban unconstitutionally restricts speech for all app users, effectively shutting down an expression platform.
