At its Made on YouTube live event on Tuesday, YouTube introduced a suite of new generative AI tools designed to enhance Shorts creation. Among the highlights is a custom version of Google’s text-to-video model, Veo 3, alongside fresh remixing options and an “Edit with AI” feature.

The new version, called Veo 3 Fast, delivers outputs at 480p with reduced latency, making it quicker and easier to produce video clips. For the first time, creators can also generate videos with sound.

The rollout is starting in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, with YouTube confirming plans to expand to additional regions soon.

New capabilities for Shorts include the option to apply motion from an existing video to a still image, such as animating a photo to make the person in it perform a dance. This is powered by movement transfer technology that captures and maps actions from one subject to another.

Creators can also experiment with artistic styles like pop art or origami, as well as insert objects, characters, or props into videos simply by typing a text description.
