Disney has announced a partnership with TikTok to bring fan-created Disney content directly to Disney+ as part of a pilot programme launching in the United States in the coming months, with plans to expand to additional international markets.
Under the agreement, TikTok videos created by fans featuring popular franchises such as Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars will be showcased within Verts, Disney+’s dedicated short-form video feed introduced earlier this year.
The collaboration forms part of Disney’s broader strategy to expand the variety of content available through Verts and strengthen engagement with younger audiences who increasingly consume short-form videos on social media platforms.
Disney had previously explored a similar approach through a proposed three-year licensing agreement with OpenAI that included a reported $1 billion investment to support AI-generated short videos featuring Disney characters on the Sora platform. Those plans were abandoned after OpenAI discontinued Sora in March.
The new partnership with TikTok reflects the growing competition between streaming services and social media platforms for audience attention, with companies increasingly integrating short-form content into their entertainment ecosystems.
As part of the collaboration, Disney has also launched the Disney Creator Ambassador Program, giving selected TikTok creators access to Disney’s extensive content library while offering opportunities to earn rewards, gain greater visibility, attend exclusive events and explore career opportunities with the company.
Disney joins other streaming platforms, including Tubi and Peacock, which have also partnered with TikTok creators to develop original long-form content for their services.
The announcement coincides with Disney’s latest quarterly financial results, which showed subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) operating income more than doubling to $712 million, compared with $329 million during the same period a year earlier.
Alongside the partnership, Disney also confirmed a corporate restructuring that will transfer its consumer products business from the Experiences division to the Studios segment as part of its wider strategic reorganisation.
