Meta has unveiled Muse Code, a new AI-powered terminal coding agent designed to help software developers complete complex programming tasks across large code repositories.
Currently available in beta, Muse Code is aimed at developers working on large-scale software projects and is capable of handling end-to-end software engineering workflows.
“Complete software engineering tasks across large repos,” Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a social media post on Wednesday. Those tasks include “planning changes, writing code, validating the results,” he added.
The tool can be installed with a single command and is powered by Meta’s previously released Muse Spark coding model.
Muse Code is designed to improve efficiency by automatically launching multiple AI agents to work on different parts of a project simultaneously.
“When a job is big enough, it fans out to separate sub-agents working in parallel in isolated worktrees,” Zuckerberg explained. “Your working copy is never touched. In testing we had it build six features for a game simultaneously with no collisions.”
The launch strengthens Meta’s position in the rapidly growing AI coding assistant market, where it competes with tools such as OpenAI’s Codex and Anthropic’s Claude Code.
“We think that for a lot of workflows and a lot of use cases, this can be an incredibly good option, especially from a cost perspective,” Alexandr Wang, Meta’s AI chief and head of Meta Superintelligence Labs, told the Wall Street Journal.
The release forms part of Meta’s broader AI expansion strategy. In June, the company moved beyond its traditional focus on AI-powered advertising technologies by entering the enterprise AI market with a customer service and support agent designed for business applications.
