Nintendo has officially unveiled the Switch 2, the highly anticipated follow-up to one of the best-selling consoles of all time, set to launch on 5 June.
Excitement has been building among fans since January, when the Japanese gaming giant confirmed the existence of the new device after months of speculation. Now, in a Nintendo Direct online presentation—watched by over a million viewers—the company has shared further details about the console’s hardware and its upcoming game lineup.
Headlining the announcement was Mario Kart World, a brand-new installment in one of Nintendo’s most iconic franchises, which will launch alongside the Switch 2. The company also revealed an impressive selection of titles coming to the system, including Elden Ring and Street Fighter 6.
Nintendo promises the new console will deliver improved graphics and audio over its predecessor, along with a dedicated chat button, allowing players to communicate in-game.
Pricing will vary by region, but in the UK, the Switch 2 will retail for £395, or £429 when bundled with Mario Kart World.
Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa described the new system as “a leap forward,” marking eight years since the launch of the original Switch.
