OpenAI on Thursday unveiled the highly anticipated next generation of its flagship ChatGPT, showcasing “significant” advancements in artificial intelligence as the global race for AI supremacy intensifies. Reports Technology News
The new model, ChatGPT-5, is being rolled out free to all users of the AI tool, which currently serves nearly 700 million people each week, OpenAI confirmed during a media briefing.
Co-founder and chief executive Sam Altman described this latest version as “clearly a model that is generally intelligent,” calling it “a significant step toward models that are truly capable.”
However, Altman noted that the journey toward achieving full artificial general intelligence (AGI) — the ability to think and learn like a human — is not yet complete.
“This is not a model that continuously learns from new information as it operates, which I believe should be part of a true AGI,” he explained. “But the leap in capability here is enormous.”
Michelle Pokrass, a member of the development team, highlighted that GPT-5 excels in acting as an “agent” — independently managing and executing computer-based tasks with remarkable efficiency
